I had been thinking for some time about starting a Foundation but there was so much that it took that it really scared me to think what had to be
done and also the start up cost was not cheap. I had called around town to try and find a Attorney, and the lawyers said i should call a
Accountant 's, they said i should call a attorney so needless to say there was know one in South Central Oklahoma that took care of this sort of
thing, so i decided to try it myself even though i mental attention span is quite short because i get tired quickly and i never was the smartest
person even before this so i went to the IRS Web Site and downloaded the form to be filled out and punched the print button i expected there
to be 5 , 10 pages at the most but this thing just kept printing. The next day after spot reading the forms the Foundation deal was put in the way
back to do list!!!
One day while just playing around on the web i come across a company called Filing.com, sent them a email and by noon the next day i knew
what had to be done, the cost how long it will take and how one is organized and i also found out that i could not run it but also know one in the
family could help either.. Volunteers Would Be Needed!
I compiled a list of people that i thought could help , i then narrowed it down to the people that where maybe to busy and also the ones that
would not have anything to do with something like this and there where some that i put back on list because i did not want to hurt know ones
feelings,plus there where a few that did not have a computer and i did not know there address so i decided to call these when i thought the mail
would show up and the ones i emailed would get there's first. I sent 9 e mails , 3 by regular mail and i would take a little time to call the other 3.
THE LETTER I SENT IS BELOW.
I know what the last few months for me was like and there was a good Christian woman in this town that had the same problems i did , and so
knowing that #'s don't like there had to be a lot more, but for me it would have to be really bad case, know insurance, know rich family , just
moved here a few years ago and the leader of the family had passed away a few years ago, Brenda's Dad who had taken care of everything
around here and let me tell you in this State you do not get a Transplant unless you have the money and lots of it and having well known name
gets you moved up the list a little quicker, and i have asked and let me tell you i did not fall of the Potatoe Truck yesterday and you should here
how quite the conversation gets and why all of a sudden they have to go.
One person answered the call to volunteer and that was done thew Brenda except Glen Rayburn, he called nd said he did not think he was sure
he could do it , i asked him if he had ever balanced a check book and his response was sure and before i let him say anything else i said
welcome to the Foundation Mr. Treasurer . He fit the letter to a T.
Rhonda Perez was also on my list but the more i thought about it i was a little concerned about her time because i knew she did some things
at the Hotel plus worked and on top of that two school aged children at home ,by the time i called her she had already heard about the e mails i
had sent out so, when i talked to her and i asked her if she wanted to get involved and her response was what do i do and i told her i was not
quite sure but we would figure it out as we go so now i had a Secretary .
Ron Bolton had been involved in all the fund raisers we had thus for and i believe he even went home and baked a cake when we had a bake
sale last spring, i called him that evening and we talked and i told him i had it all figured out and that we would do fund raisers like before except
this time we would also be doing it to hopefully help someone else down the road and that i was looking for people that would be in it not only
for me but also to help others in a similar conditions that i am in , he said he would let me know tomorrow , he just wanted to take a night and
think it over. I called bright and early the next morning and i had the last piece to the puzzle and i also found out later that my old boss at the
Hotel had talked to him and he was the one who had convinced him to do it , my old boss was Mr. Hughes who i sent a e mail to which i wish i
had not because if there is one person in Ardmore who is busier than this man i do not know who it is , running a hotel is very stressful and he
also sits on the Board of the Chamber of Commerce, two growing boys at home and also some interest in some rental properties. I apologize
Mr Hughes for even asking!
Before i sent the first payment i was still worried not only was this going to cost $900.00 that was part of the saving to give to the Transplant
Hospital in Oklahoma City but i also knew that the $12,000.00 i had would not even get me in the door, i then talked a little about it to others
and of course Brenda, my Pastor who said it was good to want to help others which was and is the plan.
The night before i was going to write the check and mailed it off i was still going over everything in my mind and on the table next to the bed i
keep a small Bible which i have had for over a year know and i opened it to the front to where the table of contents and Guidance jumped out at
me and i turned to the page and that is where passage above come from and how i got it Psalm 32:8 , there are some of you that will not
believe this little story and i would not have a year ago, but it is the truth.
I sent the check off the next day and a week and a half the Foundation had it's first meeting.
These three people are just wonderful, nobody has a ego problem , there is know bickering and it does look like that i did all that worrying for
nothing.
I only asked them to promise me two things, the first was that if one of them had to get out for some reason that they would help the other two
find a replacement for what ever position that they decide the needs to be filled and two was that they keep it going to help others in case i don't
turn so well . My plan is to get a Transplant and come back and do my part, as a volunteer of course. 2/17/07

P.S. I almost forget one important fact .....They do not get any compensation of any kind, I offered for helping save my life but they reused until i
get a transplant , the Foundation grows to the point they will have dedicate full time to it !!!!

| To the right you see a couple of clippings, one is out of the USA Today and the other from The Daily Ardmoreite. Foundations have problems when they loose focus of what they where founded for.. When anything gets to heavy at the top, the foundation will begin to crumble and eventually fall from the weight! R. Leasure 4/21/07 |
